With years of experience in the tile industry we have seen many tile trends come and go and we have a good idea on what is a passing fad and what will be a meaningful and innovative trend. Our following checklist of 6 tile trends are set to dominate.
Terrazzo Tiles
Even though terrazzo tiles have been trending for a while there are no signs of slowing for this classic and timeless beauty, in fact its popularity status has skyrocketed in recent times. Terrazzo tiles are more popular than ever and are predicted to be the biggest design trend this year. This look is perfect for creating a clean minimalist look and are a beautiful design choice when teamed with natural materials such as stone, timber and even metal. The biggest benefit in 2019 is that we will see a larger variety of authentic looking porcelain tile versions available, making it cheaper, lighter and easier to maintain and install.

The warm and lovely look of terracotta is unique and easy to see why this will be a popular choice. With the introduction of new shapes and formats, terracotta tiles have become so versatile and exude the perfect balance between traditional and modern design. Their popularity is largely due to handmade characteristics such as colour variation, imperfect size and shape and even surface markings. They provide a strong sense of human quality that is very appealing.

Pattern tiles are already trending in a big way but we are seeing a different style of pattern emerge. Simple, bold and block patterns will be favoured with innovative shapes not seen before being more popular than ever. We are also seeing a lean towards patterned relief tiles in uniform colours that provide a softer yet more distinctive type of drama than the ones we have seen in the past.

When it comes to feature tiles a standout trend to look out for are slim, tiny formats that deliver an abundance of creativity. Stick tiles are gaining a lot of attention of late and are appealing for their ability to create drama and a stylish visual effect especially in small spaces.

Handmade tiles continue to push forward in popularity. Moroccan shapes and modern formats with hand crafted characteristics such as variation of colour, uneven and imperfect edges will be sought after with an emphasis on brush stroke textures on the surface. We ‘re also seeing an uprise in ceramic tile versions that perfectly replicate the look of handmade tiles in a more budget friendly price range.

Colour tiles are back on the radar and we could not be more thrilled. Subway tile trends will feature bold, vibrant colours that offer endless design opportunities for floors and walls. Tiles with a textured surface are also on the uprise as they create dimension and natural movement. Not only will subway tiles shine with colour but keep a lookout for square tiles also making their way back in.
