When we discovered this late 1960s townhouse, we knew the kitchen had to honour its original era. Embracing the true mid-century modern design, we made the sustainable and budget-conscious decision to upcycle a kitchen that was being thrown away—salvaging materials that still had plenty of life and character. This choice not only aligned with our values but also gave us a unique foundation to build upon.
To bring a modern edge to the space, we introduced the Arezzo Moss 100 gloss tiles from Perini. Their deep, moody tones added richness and dimension without making the space feel rigid or overly structured. As avid plant lovers, we wanted the kitchen to feel earthy and organic, to which the rustic characteristics of the Arezzo tile bring, while complementing the exposed beams and warm wooden cabinetry. We sourced an original Carl Fagerlund light fixture that was repurposed into a statement piece above the island, adding a touch of retro charm.
Continuing with our natural materials palette, we selected a copper benchtop for the outer counters and Jarrah wood for the island—bringing warmth, texture, and timeless appeal to the heart of the home.
As first-time homeowners and renovators, we were incredibly impressed by Perini Tiles’ outstanding customer service. They made the process seamless, having our order prepared and ready for pickup in no time.
