Pattern Play: 6 Ways to Work Pattern Tiles into your Home

Using patterned tiles is an effective way to transform your interiors and add a sense of style and creativity to your home and with the beautiful array of patterns on offer at the moment the hardest part will be choosing which one to go for. Here we show you some of our favourites and the different types of looks that can be achieved.

Chevron & Herringbone

A simple way to introduce pattern into your floors or walls is to go for a herringbone or chevron design.  This is a safe way to add subtlety without too much colour or pattern.  These tiles are usually installed individually to create a continuous pattern. They are long and thin in format and are commonly made of porcelain.  The biggest benefit of porcelain tile is that they are extremely durable with little maintenance involved.  They are also available in a beautiful array of natural looking products such as marble, concrete and terrazzo.

Monochromatic

A monochromatic patterned tile is a clean and classic look that will stand the test of time. Monochrome tiles are a popular choice as not only do they provide strong visual impact,  they allow flexibility when it comes to adding other colours to your space. If you have your heart set on sticking to a black and white theme,  pair monochromes with white walls to bring in light or with bold dark walls to create a luxe factor.

Whimsical

Whimsical tiles are high on our list when looking for a playful and fun look.  There are a number of colours and patterns to choose from when opting for this design and are perfect to introduce charm and character into your space. You can be as adventurous as you like when choosing this style of pattern but the key here is not to go overboard. Their beauty remains in their simple block designs and soft pastel hues.

Relief Patterns

One of the biggest technological advances in tiles of late is the ability to create relief patterns on tiles.  They hold so much potential and the result can be dramatic. Relief tiles in uniform colours provide a soft, distinct drama and exude a handmade look that is irresistibly tactile.

Encaustic Tiles

Encaustic patterns have been around for a while now and their popularity continues to surge.  The beauty in this distinct style is that encaustics exude the perfect balance between classic and modern design and suit many different styles of home. They provide a bold impact so best to match them with simple plain colours so as not to overdo the space.

Terrazzo Tiles

Terrazzo’s popularity has skyrocketed of late and the next big thing in this appealing material is patterned tiles.  It seems like a match made in tile heaven, when terrazzo and pattern tiles come together as it enhances visual interest and adds drama and sophistication.  And now thanks to the marvel of technology, porcelain tile that perfectly simulate natural terrazzo are available and the benefits are hard to resist. Porcelain versions do not need sealing, are easy to clean and maintain and are generally cheaper to install.
